The quickest way to sort out a pest problem in Centurion is to know which kind of property you're dealing with, because that decides which pests turn up and how they get in. A new estate home on the edge of open grassland has different trouble from a 1980s house in Lyttelton, and both are different again from a restaurant kitchen near the mall. We've been doing this for 25 years across Pretoria and Centurion, and every job starts the same way: we look before we treat.
How Centurion's layout shapes its pests
Centurion grew fast, and it grew outwards into veld. Much of it is security estates and townhouse complexes built on land that was grassland not long ago, with the Hennops River and its stormwater channels running through the middle and office parks along the main routes. Mixed in are established suburbs such as Eldoraigne and Wierdapark, where gardens are large and trees are mature.
That mix gives three broad pest patterns:
- Estates and newer homes: pressure comes from outside. Harvester termites in lawns, moles in irrigated gardens, rodents and scorpions moving in from open ground.
- Complexes and older homes: pressure comes from inside the building. Cockroaches travelling between units, mice and rats in shared roof voids, fishmoths in old built-in cupboards.
- Offices, shops and food businesses: pressure comes from waste and deliveries. Cockroaches, flies and stored product pests, which is where a scheduled monitoring contract earns its keep.
The pests we're called out for most
Termites
Two different problems share the name. Harvester termites strip estate lawns in the dry months, while subterranean termites go for timber in walls and roofs. The treatment for one does nothing for the other, so our termite treatments in Centurion always begin with confirming which one you have.
Rats and mice
As soon as winter nights get cold, rodents from the river banks and open veld look for a warm roof. In complexes, one unit's problem quickly becomes the whole block's. We use lockable bait stations, traps where bait isn't suitable, and proofing advice. Read more on rodent control for Centurion properties.
Cockroaches
German cockroaches live in kitchens and spread through shared plumbing in flats and townhouses. The larger American cockroach comes up from drains and sewer lines. Gel baits placed where they hide do far more than a spray, and our Centurion cockroach service explains how we handle both.
Ants
Ants march in along paving joints and irrigation pipes, often just before a summer storm. Baits that workers carry back to the nest are the answer, not a trail spray that only kills the scouts. See getting rid of ants in Centurion.
Moles
Well-watered lawns full of grubs and worms are exactly what golden moles look for. The raised ridges they leave can ruin a garden that's otherwise perfect. Our mole work in Centurion gardens starts by confirming it really is a mole and not termites or a mole-rat.
And the rest
We also treat spiders, scorpions, centipedes, millipedes, wasps, flies, fleas, bed bugs, bird mites and pantry pests here. Most are targeted jobs rather than a whole-house spray.
The Centurion pest year
The first big thunderstorm of spring sets things off: flying termites, ants indoors and millipedes on the patio. Midsummer brings flies, mosquitoes near water and paper wasps under the eaves. Autumn is busy for moles. From May the calls swing to rodents in roofs and harvester termites in dry lawns.
A local tip: if your estate or complex backs onto a green belt, river channel or open veld, check that boundary first. Keep a clear strip along the wall, free of compost, wood piles and dense creepers, and you remove much of the cover rodents, scorpions and termites use to reach the house.
What people often get wrong
Treating one unit in a complex and expecting the problem to stay solved. Cockroaches, rats and termites don't stop at the dividing wall. Where a problem has spread through a block, we'd rather work with the body corporate on the whole site than keep coming back to the same unit.
How we work
We inspect inside and out to find the cause: the entry point, the food, the moisture, the hiding place. Then we treat what we find with the right method, explain what you can change to keep it from coming back, and return for a follow-up where the job needs one. For normal insect treatments you don't need to leave home; just keep children and pets off treated surfaces until they're dry. Our sprays are odourless and won't stain.
We service houses, complexes, estates, schools, offices, restaurants and warehouses, and offer scheduled monitoring for businesses and estates that need regular visits and records.
What does it cost?
It depends on the pest, the size of the property and how established the problem is. Gel baiting one kitchen is a small job; treating a whole complex or setting up a monitoring contract for an office park is quoted to the site. If what you have can be handled with a trap or a tidy-up, we'll tell you that honestly.

Questions we get asked
Which areas of Centurion do you cover?
All of Centurion, including the older suburbs, the estates and complexes, and the office parks and industrial areas. We also work in Midstream, Irene and the surrounding areas.
Can you work inside a security estate?
Yes. We arrange gate access when you book and work within the estate's rules and permitted hours.
Do I need a contract, or can I book a once-off treatment?
Once-off treatments are fine for most homes. Monitoring contracts are mainly for businesses, complexes and estates that want regular visits and service records.
Is it safe to stay at home during treatment?
For normal insect treatments, yes. Keep children and pets off treated surfaces until they've dried. Only gas fumigation, which is rarely needed in a home, means leaving the sealed area until it's cleared.
What does your 3-month guarantee cover?
If the pest we treated comes back within three months of the treatment, we come back and deal with it. It applies to the pest and area we treated.
Why do my neighbours' pests keep reaching my unit?
Because complexes share walls, roofs, drains and gardens. Treating the affected units together, or the whole block, is usually what finally breaks the cycle.
