Check all traps regularly as a Rat corps can leave a very unpleasant smell if left for to long. My personal opinion will be using a Rat trap that way the rat dies immediately and not a slow, long and painful death.
Preventing a Rat infestation:
It is very easy to prevent Rats from invading your house or business. Start by keeping your garbage clean. When throwing out your garbage make sure to throw it in the bin and close the lid properly. Cause when left laying around the house gives Rats easy access. Another way to prevent Rats from coming into your house is keep all open foods in sealed containers and packed away. If you have dog or cat food laying around in the open, put them also in sealed containers, like i mentioned earlier Rats love dog and cat food.
